Top tips for first time caravanners

If you’re a new touring caravan owner, or hitting the road in your motorhome for the first time then we have a few handy tips to help make that fist adventure go a little smoother.

Plan Ahead: Research your route and destinations in advance. A lot of parks are in rural locations so will often advise you to take a certain route. Don’t rely on popping the postcode into sat nav as parks are often in rural locations so you don’t want to end up having to reverse down a single track lane on your first trip out….

Pack Wisely: Be sure to secure everything you pack in to your tourer or motorhome before you set off so you don’t get to your destination and find a bit of a mess! Make sure to distribute weight evenly to ensure safe towing. Don’t forget to bring along tools and spare parts for any potential repairs.

Safety First: Before you hit the road, make sure you’re hitched up properly and your lights are all working. Allow plenty of time for your journey, especially if you will be travelling on unfamiliar routes, and be mindful of your caravan’s size and weight when manoeuvring and parking. This also applies for motorhomes as you will have to remember to corner a little more carefully to avoid any unwanted scratches from sharp turns.

Stay Connected: Most parks will offer wi-Fi, either complimentary or for a small fee, but be aware that this will not be to the usual strength you expect at home. It should be perfect for sending holiday snaps to your family group chat or checking in on your emails. However, if you’re hoping to catch up with your favourite serious on a streaming network, we’d advise that you download it before you travel.

Enjoy the Journey: Enjoying life with a touring caravan, motorhome or campervan is as much about the journey as it is about the destination. Take the time to enjoy the scenery, explore local attractions, and connect with each other whilst you’re on your holiday. Embrace the freedom and flexibility that this kind of travel offers, and don’t be afraid to deviate from your itinerary to discover hidden gems.
