Spring Round Up

Welcome back to Riverside for the 2019 season. As we haven’t seen many of you since before Christmas, we thought we would give a general round up of what’s been happening since then.

We were very busy over the Christmas and New year period with tourers and a lot more Holiday Home customers stayed until the end of the season this time, possibly due to the better weather we had been having.

Once we closed it wasn’t long before Jennie, Thomas and Isabel were heading off to Manchester’s Event City for the Caravan & Motorhome show. The show is on for four days in January every year, and we met lots of people who were just starting out with touring caravans, and a few familiar faces from the park popped by to see us too.

Two weeks later Isabel, Thomas and Jane went to Liverpool for the week for the annual BH&HPA conference. This is where companies from all areas of the caravan industry come together to announce the latest news and share ideas for the future. There’s always guest speakers, and Isabel was very excited to this year meet Matthew Syed, who is one of the presenters on Radio5’s  podcast, “Flintoff, Savage and the Ping Pong Guy”. Thomas was equally as excited about meeting Martin Bayfield, an England rugby union player.

The following week it was Heather, Les and Jane’s turn, as they went to Glasgow for the Scottish Caravan and Motorhome Show.  Back home, 1922 Bar & Kitchen was the location for this year’s Discover Bowland guide launch. The now travel size guide can be picked up for free in reception or the information room, and is packed with walks, ideas for days out and information on businesses in and the Forest of Bowland.

Out on the park, Andrew and his team have been very busy throughout January and February, during our closed months. The new road was put from the top row of holiday home pitches up to the field behind the play area, which is where we had planning passed for 18 more Holiday Home pitches. New drains were also put into the hillside for the new road.

Some of the touring pitches were refreshed, and all of the trees around the park were trimmed….as you can imagine, this took some time!

Mark, the new night warden joined us, starting on 1st March, and is learning the ropes, ready for our first busy period over Easter.

Bentham Golf course has had a fantastic winter with some lovely dry days. Unfortunately, the driving range nets were damaged by Storm Brian in October 2018, so it has been out of action for a while.  The lads have been working nonstop to get new posts and nets up, and they managed to have it open again for 1st March. For those of you who do golf regularly, Nick Barron, the Pro, has now left and has gone to Kendal Golf Club. He will still be coming back to teach occasionally, so it won’t be the last you have seen of him. The Shop has been restocked by Isabel and Chris, and you will still be able to buy clothing and accessories. Golf clubs will no longer be in stock at the shop, but If you were wanting some ordering please just pop in and speak to them.

1922 Bar & Kitchen has been very busy with private and public functions, and the team are looking forward to a busy 2019.

Wenningdale Escapes have had a brilliant few months over Christmas, and the reaction to both the lodges and glamping pods has been amazing, with some people having already been for repeat visits. If you have family or friends wanting to come and visit, but don’t have the room to accommodate them, why not give Isabel a call on 015242 62455 to find out more.

We have already enjoyed some warm weather and sunshine, during an unseasonably warm February. Let’s hope for another lovely warm summer like last year.
