Inspiration Itineraries: For Ale & Foodie Fans

To help you plan your holiday with us, no matter how brief or long it may be, we’re putting together a series of inspirational itineraries based around a theme or stay period, e.g 3 night break.

Our first itinerary is for food and drink fans, showcasing the best our area has to offer to tease and tantalise your taste buds. You can sample Yorkshire Dales Gin, Lancashire Cheese or Bowland Beer. Our park offers a great base to explore food and in the Forest of Bowland, Lancashire, Yorkshire Dales and the edge of the Lake District.

Breweries

A short trip away (by car, train or bus!) is our postal town of Lancaster and its very own Brewery; Lancaster Brewery. We’re lucky to have this on our doorstep as it’s one of the largest micro-breweries in the North West. If you’d like to find out more about the day to day life of the brewery then why not enjoy a tour through the brewing process and enjoy a taste of the produce after wards?

Since its beginning in 2009, this family run brewery has developed 33 different beers and a tap house in which to enjoy these brews! They don’t offer brewery tours but you can pop into the nearby town of Kirkby Lonsdale and visit their tap house, The Royal Barn, to enjoy sampling this local brew.

Located in the stunning Dentdale region, Dent Brewery is one of the most remote breweries in the country.  For almost 26 years this rural Brewery has been producing internationally enjoyed beers. Why not pop up to the George and Dragon in Dent Village to sample a pint and enjoy this quaint North Yorkshire town whilst you’re at it!

Located next to Settle Railway Station, Settle Brewery was founded in 2002. It now has a brewery shop open from 11:30 – 4pm Monday to Friday. Keep your eyes peeled on their Brewery News for details of their next open day.

Located over t’hill in the Forest of Bowland, Holmes mill is a recently opened multi use venue with an array of exciting things on offer including a BEER HALL! Yes, this is Bowland Breweries main beer tasting parlour offering a place to sample ale, enjoy a bite to eat and the occasional live music. If you don’t mind travelling a little further then this is a trip well worthwhile. Why not check out the Bowland Explorer bus timetable and leave the car with us? http://www.forestofbowland.com/Bowland-Explorer

Cheese

Located in Hawes, with a spectacular backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales, Wensleydale creamery is a great destination for cheese lovers and families alike. They have a visitor centre offering an interactive family day out plus their cheese shop and on-site café. The creamery is only a 35minute drive (approx.) from our Park and takes you past the Ribblehead Viaduct and above our stunning scenery. This award winning cheese is only made in Wensleydale so why not go and try it from the source?

Just along the A65 from our park is the newly opened Courtyard Dairy. Formed in 2012, this family run business has gone from strength to strength with its award-winning cheese, and most recently a successful Royal visit! Their cheese shop is a unique, specialist cheese shop offering the opportunity to sample and purchase some of the finest cheese around.

This family run dairy was founded in 1957 and has been making its high-quality cheese in the Lancashire town of Garstang ever since. With classic chesses such as a creamy and a crumbly Lancashire on offer they also have some unique products such as a creamy Garstang Blue or a recent addition, the Garstang White.

If you’re heading down that way, be sure to head to Wallings Ice Cream parlour and make a day of it. (keep reading to find out more!)

Farm Shops

Offering great value fresh and local produce through this excellent designed farm shop, Keelham is well worth dropping into if you’re heading Skipton way. With a bakery, juicery, butchery, alehouse and flower shop all inside the shop, you can find some real delights for tea or to take home with you.

Set in Malhamdale, a trip out to this farm shop and café will be well worth it, especially if it’s a clear day! They have their own traditional charcuterie, stock an array of specialist cheeses and gins!

Afternoon Tea

There are an abundance of local garden centres and tea rooms offering wonderful versions of the classic Afternoon Tea.

Take a trip to Holden Clough Nursey and enjoy one of their seasonal and quirky picnic benches in their onsite café ‘The Garden Kitchen’.

Or, pop down the road (A65) to The Falcon Manor in Settle and enjoy their roaring fires whilst you sample their sweet treats.

Ice Cream

A little out of season now but who doesn’t love some proper ice-cream! We’re lucky enough to be fairly close to two fantastic ice cream parlours in  Wallings Ice cream and Billy Bob’s Parlour, the home of Yorkshire Dales ice cream

Well, we think that’s enough to help you explore our area and enjoy the local food and drink. Enjoy the adventure!
